KEEPING FAMILIES CLOSE

Childhood illness is a tremendously stressful time for a family. At the Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida, their mission is to keep families close to their children during this difficult time. The House in Gainesville puts out a warm welcome for families of children who are seriously ill and receiving life-saving care at the UF Health Shands Children’s’ Hospital. A 31-bedroom facility is a comfortable haven with home-cooked meals, private bedrooms, and playrooms for siblings. Caretakers can rest, recharge, and regroup, near their sick child’s hospital room during these traumatic extended stays.

You can help in an easy small way. When you pull the tab to open a beverage can, save that little aluminum pop-tab. You’ll find them on all kinds of cans: soda, pet food, canned fruits, soups, vegetables and more. Save them up in a little plastic bag and then bring them to church; there’s a box in the Outreach Room to collect them.

Patti and Paul Spellman have been involved in this ministry for nearly 30 years. Once the pop-tabs are collected at the church, they deliver them to the Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville to be recycled. The cash received for the recycled aluminum supports the House and the families it serves.

Remember the impact those little tabs can have.
